OTTAWA – The Hon. Candice Bergen, Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar and Conservative Deputy Leader issued the following statement on the truck convoy making its way to Ottawa.

“Last week, Justin Trudeau dealt our already crumbling supply chain another blow. Over 26,000 truckers are now unable to transport goods across the Canada-U.S. border, which will only drive inflation higher than it’s been in over 30 years.

“Conservatives have been opposed to federally mandated vaccines since Trudeau introduced them; and we oppose the mandatory vaccine on Canadian truckers. These men and women who ship our goods and bring much needed supplies into Canada are essential and have worked tirelessly over the pandemic to keep grocery shelves stocked and supplies moving.

“Hamstringing this essential industry is nothing more than a political move to further divide Canadians. We need a realistic and flexible approach to keeping Canadians safe, and this sweeping mandate won’t accomplish that.

“Now more than ever, our economy needs to be reopened, and we need every sector working in order to recover from the pandemic. I support peaceful demonstrations against these mandates, and our truckers from Portage-Lisgar and from across Canada.”
