Dismissing Justin Trudeau’s infamous #WelcomeToCanada tweet as irrelevant or unrelated to the growing number of illegal migrants crossing into our country is disingenuous at best. Since this tweet, Canada has seen an unprecedented crisis at our border and no plan from this Prime Minister to deal with it. His words, actions and failures have consequences and Canadians are feeling these consequences directly.
Governing is about choices and priorities. Through media reports, we have learned that the Canadian Government has proactively reached out to “Jihadi Jack”, the charming nickname of an alleged ISIS terrorist with British citizenship in an attempt to bring him to Canada.
Media has also reported that Muhammad Ali, a high-profile member of the Islamic State was captured by Kurdish forces trying to flee from Syria to Turkey and that he too has been in contact with Canadian officials to discuss his return to Canada. Ali was born in Pakistan and later moved to Canada, obtaining Canadian citizenship.
When Justin Trudeau was asked about this in the House of Commons, Conservatives and Canadians received no answer but rehearsed talking points and name calling, the go-to Liberal response when asked legitimate questions.
Conservatives have been clear and firmly believe that any individual who took up arms against Canada and our allies and joined the Islamic State death cult should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible under law. Unsurprisingly, Liberals have shown a preference for “reintegration” of terrorists over prosecution, putting the safety of Canadians at risk.
Last year, the Liberals repealed the provision to strip dual citizens of their Canadian ties if convicted of terrorism, treason or espionage. When faced with tough decisions, Justin Trudeau consistently and shamefully side with criminals and terrorists over law abiding Canadians.
