Grand Forks, ND – The Hon. Candice Bergen, Official Opposition House Leader and Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar, and her Conservative Party colleagues from Manitoba met with North Dakota’s Congressman Kevin Cramer earlier this week in Grand Forks, ND to discuss important issues facing both Canada and the United States.
"Having an open dialogue between Members of Parliament and U.S Representatives is vital for relations between our two countries,” said MP Bergen. "With such a long border and integrated economy, it is important for us to discuss local issues that affect people on both sides of the border.”
The meeting covered a broad number of topics including illegal migration, NAFTA and other trade issues as well as defence.
"Canada and the U.S. are the world’s largest trading partners, and millions of jobs on both sides of the border depend on trade. With the renegotiation of NAFTA on the horizon it is important that we ensure that this is recognized and respected,” said Bergen. "Representative Cramer understands this and we had a very productive discussion.”
The meeting was attended by all Members of Parliament from the Manitoba Conservative Caucus.
