MP Bergen Visits Swan Lake First Nation Meets with Elders to discuss issues facing the community

Swan Lake, MB – On Wednesday, July 11 2018, Candice Bergen, Conservative House Leader and MP for Portage-Lisgar met with community members and Elders at Swan Lake First Nation. The group discussed a wide range of issues that people on Reserves are currently facing and ways to work together to overcome these challenges.

“It was a privilege to sit down with leaders like Elaine Scott and Elders to discuss some of the challenges and opportunities that the people of Swan Lake First Nation are currently facing,” said Bergen. “This is a community that is working very hard to bring healing and wholeness at the grassroots level, by encouraging families and members of their Reserve to be healthier. As well, the community is looking to the Federal Government to do more to address the issue of prescription drug abuse; one that is all too common across Canada. It was an honour to be part of this frank discussion on how we can work together to achieve these goals.”

Prior to their meeting, MP Bergen was given a tour of Jordan’s Principal Centre where she had the opportunity to talk with different members of the First Nations community and discuss the positive impact this Centre is having on their Reserve.
