MP Bergen Defends Local Jobs

Morden, MB – On September 11, the Honourable Candice Bergen, House Leader for Canada’s Conservatives and Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar, will host roundtable meetings with local business owners from across Portage-Lisgar in regard to the impact of Canada’s strained trading relationship with the United States on their businesses.

“Many residents and business owners from across my riding of Portage-Lisgar have raised their concerns with me about the uncertainty surrounding trade with the United States. They have expressed frustration that Mexico and the U.S. struck a deal behind Justin Trudeau’s back. They want to know why Canada is on the outside looking in, while major sectors of the economy and many local jobs hang in the balance,” stated Bergen. “It is essential that I meet with more local business owners and workers to discuss the challenges they are facing with respect to trade and tariffs.”
The first meeting will take place in Winkler at 10:00am, followed by a meeting in Portage la Prairie at 2:00pm that afternoon.

“During these meetings, I want to hear from these local businesses and owners on their ideas, concerns, and solutions, around NAFTA, tariffs, taxes and the economy,” concluded Bergen.
